Before you go

Three days is enough to see a selection of landmarks, but not every neighborhood. Plan by area rather than crossing Manhattan several times a day. Transit time, lines, weather and fatigue can easily change the pace. Book timed attractions ahead when available.

Day 1: Midtown landmarks

Begin around Bryant Park and the New York Public Library. Walk Fifth Avenue toward Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Choose one paid observation deck: Top of the Rock works well for Empire State views, while the Empire State Building offers an iconic visit. Spend your evening exploring Times Square briefly or seeing a Broadway performance.

Day 2: Lower Manhattan

Start early at Battery Park for harbor views; choose a Liberty Island visit or a shorter sightseeing cruise depending on your budget. Continue to the Financial District and the 9/11 Memorial area, allowing quiet time for the memorial. Walk west to the Hudson River if the weather is pleasant. Advance tickets and security screening can affect your schedule.

Day 3: Brooklyn and a museum

Walk across Brooklyn Bridge in the morning, explore DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park, then return to Manhattan for a museum suited to your interests. Alternatively swap the museum for Central Park and the Upper West Side. Do not schedule two big museums on the same afternoon.

Where to stay and what to book

Midtown is convenient for first-time visitors, while Long Island City may offer different value with subway access. Compare the full room cost including taxes and fees. Choose a single deck or attraction pass only after deciding which sights you will actually use.

Travel tips

Use official MTA guidance for current fares and service alerts. Pack comfortable shoes, leave buffer time for airport transfers, and check individual attraction schedules. This is a flexible suggested itinerary, not a claim of an on-the-ground visit.
